What we really can’t do without

The world is heating. Badly! I have felt it a lot during the last years, especially due to the fact that I hate heat. And I started observing and wondering what the real issue with the “global warming” is, what makes it such a fashionable subject lately.

The planet, our Earth is a few billion years old. I am pretty sure it was here before we even thought about organizing our own molecules into cells-organs-bodies-EGOs. And it will definitely be here after we are extinct too. It kind of has its own schedule and deadlines to follow (some pun intended with the deadlines), its own cycles, objectives, plans. Sounds like the Earth was a human being? Well, it is a living organism with its own creative and destructive cycles, so it looks and feels similar to a human being, with its regular mood swings.

Ever since the first humans started walking the Earth, they were unhappy. And I tend to believe that they were unhappy with their inner world, but, just like we do after hundreds of thousands of years, instead of dealing with their inner issues, our ancestors thought maybe it would be better to just… take over the outside world!

So people became unhappy with the crowds and the darkness and wetness in the caves, and they started building houses. They became frustrated that the fruits were not available to eat all year round, so they started hunting. The raw meat became unpleasant, so humans invented fire. Fires and houses needed trees to be cut and used. We started modelling the world around us to fit us, not thinking for a second that the ones that should change are actually, ourselves! We drifted away more and more from our inner world and feelings, became more and more unhappy overall, and we blamed the world outside ourselves for that. And we reached on to a slippery path where the more we drift away from our feelings, the more we don’t want to take a look at ourselves and our thoughts and believes, the more we are frustrated, the more we ask for outside goods to make us feel better. And the more we drill, cut, harvest from the Earth to our own benefits! Only because instead of changing and managing ourselves and our inner world: perception, thoughts, wishes, values, we chose to look the other way, and change the world surrounding us according to our desires. But the only true change can be only within, if we try to impose it on to someone else, or to something else, including our own planet, we are on a safe path to destruction.

How would things be if we cared more about changing ourselves according to the planet, and not demanding that the planet changes to suit us better? How would it be if we could all just adapt to any elements, use whatever is provided directly from the nature, plant instead of cutting, base our every day life on what we can find available out there instead of creating what we want?

There is a fine line between what we need and what we want, and that line can easily be crossed with a misunderstanding of who we are, what our value and worth is and with an improperly used Ego.

But don’t worry, the planet can do without us, and probably one day it will. Unfortunately, we can’t do without the planet!
